Providence Veterinary Hospital & Clinic serve Alameda, CA as well as Oakland, San Leandro, and the surrounding areas with superb veterinary medicine and gentle, compassionate care. We’ve been a part of this community since 1947 when a veterinarian started seeing pets in his home after the end of World War II. He built an animal hospital right under his house, and that’s where we remain to this day (with modern remodeling in 2016, to outfit the hospital with the latest medical technology and equipment, of course!).
We are A Locally-Owned Animal Hospital
We were the first animal hospital in Alameda, and are proud to still be a locally-owned and independent practice. Not long after our hospital opened, we built a satellite clinic on the West End (modernized in 2019) to conveniently serve pets and their people all over the city.

Our Vet Offers Kinder Care for Pets
Did you know our hospital and clinic are Cat Friendly Practices, and that most of our staff members are Fear Free Certified Professionals? These accreditations mean we put your pet’s mental health and well-being at the forefront of all we do. Our Cat Friendly Practices are built with the specific needs of cats in mind to ensure they feel safe and secure. Plus, our Fear Free Certified staff knows how to take the fear and anxiety out of vet visits for both dogs and cats to ensure they enjoy (or at least feel less stressed!) visiting us.
Our In-House Pharmacy
Our in-house pharmacy offers all the latest and greatest prescriptions for pets including flea, tick, and parasite prevention, pain medication, supplements, and more! You can conveniently pick up your pet’s prescription during your visit. Plus, getting a refill is easy: Simply fill out the refill request form online and we’ll let you know when it’s ready.

We do extensive work with The Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter, and our owner and vet, Dr. Michael Miller, has served on the board for years. We often do spays and neuters, offer parasite prevention, and provide a variety of other low-cost treatments to help these pets get ready for adoption. We deeply value the work shelters and rescues do for pets in need and if you adopt a pet from The Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter — or any shelter/rescue, for that matter — your pet’s first exam with us is free!
